Stan Eldon Receives Copy of Our Book

THE Roadrunners’ anniversary book has attracted some warm praise…. from the man who started it all.

Stan Eldon, the man behind the formation of the club in 1987, said: “It’s a very special book. It was very well put together, so congratulations to all involved.”

Stan was presented with a copy of 30 Years Of Reading Roadrunners by the club’s archivist Chris Mason.

Chris, who did the lion’s share of the research for the book, handed over a complimentary copy at Stan’s home in Didcot.

Former Great Britain middle-distance and cross-country star Eldon, now 81, helped set up the club following his Reading Half Marathon training sessions in Palmer Park.

He said: “It was great to catch up with Chris, one of the best athletes in the club’s history.”

Stan and his wife Marion recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

His own autobiography, Life On The Run, is no longer in print but is on sale as an ebook on Amazon.

30 Years Of Reading Roadrunners is selling well, so make sure you grab a copy before the Christmas rush. It is on sale at £3 from the foyer at Palmer Park before Wednesday evening track sessions.
