Meet Our Team Captains
Chris Moseley – Men’s Team Captain.
Running’s been part of my life from an early age. My first race was a Tilehurst Fun Run back in 1983 and I came last! My dad helped set up Wargrave Runners in 1984 and took part in various races. I often went along to support him and if there was a junior race, I’d do that. My running continued in my teens and I did my first Reading Half in 1996. I’ve gone on to do several marathons and a few 50km ultras, some more successful than others! But I still love the shorter stuff: parkruns and cross country.
I started coming along to Roadrunners track sessions a couple of years ago. I already knew a few members and was made to feel very welcome. But with my dad still actively involved in Wargrave Runners, I was slightly nervous about telling him that I was changing my first claim club. Luckily, he was fine about it and still supports me in a green vest!
I’m fortunate to be running reasonably well at the moment, picking up the occasional vet’s prize. I’d like to think I’ve got 1 or 2 decent marathons left in me, having shaved a few seconds off my PB last year. I just need to stay injury free and try to fit the training in around other commitments!
As men’s captain, I’m looking forward to getting some competitive teams out for the relay races and cross-country races during the year. I also want to celebrate the various successes that our club members achieve, across the age categories. But it’s not just about winning prizes and setting records. I’d like to encourage anyone in the club to come forward and take part in the team events and the club championships. They’re great fun and a good way to get to know each other!
